Over 5m households owe money on their water bills.
OFWAT the water industry regulator has announced that more than five million households currently owe money on their water bills and over the last five years the amount owed has increased by more than 50%. OFWAT state that the cost of collecting and writing off debts has risen further, adding about £12 to every customer’s bill.
Nick Pearson, spokesman for debt solutions experts Baines and Ernst commented “Water rates are typically just one of the many problems faced by people who are in multiple debt. It is important for people in financial difficulty to take a holistic view of their problem and deal with the whole of the debt problem.
